Last Thursday, the 7th April 2016, I was invited by Sylvia Katz to give a talk on Tarot, at the Centre of Spiritual Philosophy in Sea Point, Cape Town. What a delightful evening – balmy weather, intimate setting, wonderful energy and a great group of people. I began with a brief introduction on the origins of Tarot, followed by my entry into the world of the esoteric and Tarot 21 years ago. After explaining how I teach the ‘Introduction to Tarot’ to my workshop students, in 4 easy steps – we discussed the Tarot Deck. I divided all 78 cards into the 22 cards of Major Arcana, and the 56 cards of the Minor Arcana, which included the 14 court cards, and allowed for an interesting and lively description of some basic astrological pointers of the 12 sun signs and their grouping into the 4 basic elements (fire, earth, water, air) – which correlate to the 4 suits of the minor arcana.
The highlight of the evening was the practical demonstration, whereby each person came up and chose a few cards, which I interpreted for them. This is always the most fun, and most rewarding, part of the evening, when one is able to be of help by answering questions or pointing out guidance. Questions let to more questions, as we all warmed to the messages that were received and everyone had their turn. Time flew and before we knew it, we had run over time and the evening was brought to a close, on a high note, and a very warm and welcoming one. Thanks to all who attended, and to Sylvia for her invitation.
